Voluntary 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 🤝occurs as young as 4 month old and evolves drastically within the first year of their lives 🐤
𝟰 - 𝟲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀: Your baby may begin by wrapping their little fingers around yours, and eventually the thumb with better strength. By 6 months, they'll be able to grab toys they want where you can encourage them by keeping toys within their reach.
𝟴 - 𝟵 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀: By this age, your child should be able to have a "raking motion" with stronger thumb support. Let them try and use a spoon, even if they don't succeed!
𝟵 - 𝟭𝟮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀: You will begin to see a "pincer grasp" 🤏 which is a huge milestone! This means they are picking up objects with their thumb & index finger to hold a toy. Encourage this by passing the toy back and forth with toys that are of suitable sizes and shapes.
Why is this important? Because this lays the foundation for independency such as feeding themselves, drawing and writing 🎨, and the ability to interact with the world around them.
We have carefully curated our toy boxes that are age-appropriate and encourages skills like grasping before they refine their motor skills. Check out our toy selections on our website in bio!
