The true cost of Black Friday…

Do you know the true cost of Black Friday? It’s not as good of a deal as it seems.

Majority of items purchased will end up in the landfill

Studies shows that 80% of products purchased at Black Friday end up in landfill, are incinerated, or are recycled poorly (source). In 2022, it is expected that with product deliveries alone, the greenhouse gas emissions from Black Friday Sales will equate to that of hundreds of return flights from London to New York.

As parents, we want to give our children the best. Renting toys is one of the best way to give our children access to high quality learning materials and protecting our planet for their future at the same time.

Conscious Consumption

A good deal is even better when you’re supporting a green company. Some of our favourite toy brands with great ethical and sustainable practices are Grimm’s Wooden Toys, Kleynimals, PlanToys, and Green Toys. Their toys are featured in our toy boxes across all ages.

When purchasing a new toy, you can consider whether a toy can adapt to your child’s growing needs. Open-ended toys, such as blocks, are very versatile. Choosing toys made with long-lasting material is also important. Before making a purchase, don’t forget to check how the toy is packaged to avoid necessary plastic waste. If you are unsure whether your child would like a toy, renting before buying is an eco friendly and budget friendly way to test new toys.

Alternative ways to engage

Instead of shopping online, why not take a look at what you have at home? Take a look into your storage room, an unused toy might make the perfect Christmas present for a children in need. Toy donation is a wonderful way to give these toys a second life and bring joy to other families. Happy Baton customers can exclusively donate toys along with their toy box returns before Christmas. For non-customers, you can also drop off your donations at our collection points. Send us a WhatsApp message to learn more about this!
